Public Safety

All of us have the right to live in a safe and sustaining community. Minnesotans are safer when more of the drivers on our roads are trained, tested, licensed, and insured. That is why we have strong education and training requirements for new drivers. Twelve states and the District of Columbia have implemented similar driver’s licenses for all.

Immigration is mainly a federal policy issue, but it impacts people locally. Many of us have friends and family members whose movements are restricted when they cannot drive. Accessing driver’s licenses is necessary for them to continue to contribute to our state; they live, work, go to school, and drive here.

Allowing all immigrants to access a driver’s license will improve overall public safety. Minnesota benefits when we have drivers that are licensed and knowledgeable about traffic rules and regulations.
